Homemade “Currywurst”

Currywurst is a German dish of sausage, served with a curry sauce or curry ketchup. Currywurst is served mainly in takeaways along with a portion of fries.

Ingredients for 4 large servings:

  • 8 sausages
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 red onion
  • 50 grams pancetta
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons of curry powder
  • ¼ lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of sambal oelek
  • Sugar
  • oil for frying
  • Salt & pepper

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • Pot for cooking the curry sauce
  • Fine sieve to strain the sauce
  • Large pan for frying the sausages
  • Knife
  • Compatible bowls for serving the Currywurst

Homemade Currywurst - Step 8…& stir in until everything has a slightly red gloss…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 18…and then let simmer the sauce for about 10 – 15 minutes over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 20…and strain with a spoon through the sieve…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 21…pour the strained sauce back to the pot…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 22…bring to a boil and keep warm over low heat until serving, stirring occasionally…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 23…slightly cut the sausages 2 – 3 times on each side with a knife…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 24…heat up a large pan adding a dash of oil…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 25…& fry the sausages over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until brown…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 26…then turn them once & fry another 2 – 3 minutes from the other side until done…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 27…cut the sausages with a knife in about 2 centimeters large pieces…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 28…give the sausage slices in portions to a suitable bowl…

Homemade Currywurst - Step 29…and serve the Currywurst along with the prepared curry sauce!
