Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls or sugar rolls are a sweet pastry made from yeast dough, which is common in Scandinavia and Central Europe, but also throughout North America.

In today’s post I show you how you can quickly and simply make tasty cinnamon rolls at home. Have fun baking!

Ingredients for about 15 – 20 Homemade Cinnamon Rolls:

  • 500 grams of flour
  • 275 milliliters of lukewarm milk
  • 200 grams of soft butter
  • ½ cube of fresh yeast
  • 125 grams of white sugar
  • 125 grams of brown sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar to dust
  • Additional flour for the countertop

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • High vessel to stir together the yeast-milk-mixture
  • Whisk
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixer/Kitchen machine
  • Rolling pin
  • Kitchen towel
  • Brush
  • Bowl to mix cinnamon and brown sugar
  • Baking tray + baking paper
  • Wire rack

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 5…& knead all ingredients with a kitchen machine or mixer with dough hooks for about 4 – 5 minutes until you got a smooth but still sticky dough…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 7…give the sticky dough onto the floured surface & dust the dough with a bit more flour on top…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 8…knead for about 1 – 2 minutes by pulling the dough from the outside inwards…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 10…and allow to rest for about 45 minutes in a warm place…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 13…now roll out with a rolling pin until rectangular…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 14…from time to time bring the dough into angular shape with your hands…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 15…& stop rolling out once you reach a size of 70 x 40 centimeters…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 16…brush the dough sheet evenly with 100 grams of soft butter…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 17…mix 1 tablespoon of cinnamon with 125 grams of brown sugar…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 18…& sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar-mixture evenly over the buttered dough sheet…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 19…then roll up the dough sheet from the longitudinal side…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 20…& afterwards cut with a sharp knife into 1,5 centimeters wide snails/rolls…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 22…carefully flatten all snails/rolls with your hands…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 23…& allow to rest for another 45 minutes covered with a kitchen towel…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 24…then bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (top/bottom heat) for about 15 minutes…

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls - Step 26…dust the lukewarm cinnamon rolls with a bit powdered sugar & serve!
