Tortilla Chips or Nachos are fried or triangles made of maize and/or wheat flour. A snack dish from Mexico, which can be served with salsa, guacamole or any dip like cheese dip/sauce.
In today’s post I will show you how to make delicious Tortilla Chips/Nachos at home. Have fun baking!
Homemade: Homemade Tortilla Chips/Nachos

Ingredients for about 4 portions of Nachos/Tortilla Chips:
- 200 grams of maize flour
- 100 grams of wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- Hot water
- 1 – 1½ liters of oil for frying
- Maize flour to dust the worktop
- Salt & paprika powder for seasoning (or spices of your choice)
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- A mixing bowl
- Sieve
- Fork
- Pizza roller or knife
- Rolling pin
- Pot or wok to fry the nachos
- Ladle
- Kitchen paper
Instructions for the homemade Tortilla Chips/Nachos:
Give 200 grams of maize flour…
…& 100 grams of wheat flour through a sieve into a mixing bowl…
…also add 1 teaspoon of salt…
…& 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil…
…then pour in some hot water…
…and start to knead.
If the dough seems to be too dry, pour in more hot water…
…and continue kneading until a smooth dough…
…the dough should have the consistency of modeling clay.
Dust the working top with some maize flour…
…flatten half of the dough on the working top to flour the dough from both sides.
Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough…
…until you reach a thickness of 1 – 1½ millimeters.
Get a fork to prick the complete dough sheet to avoid air bubbles in the dough when frying.
Use a pizza cutter or a knife to cut the dough sheet into 5 – 6 centimeter thick rectangles…
…and then cut diagonally into equal-sized triangles.
Heat up a pot or wok adding 1 – 1½ liters of frying oil (carefully give a small piece of scrap dough into the oil, as soon as it bubbles and begins to foam, the oil is hot enough)…
…carefully slide the prepared triangles into the hot oil…
…and fry them for about 1 – 2 until golden, carefully stirring using a ladle.
Lift the Tortilla Chips out of the oil, drain briefly…
…and allow to cool completely on kitchen paper.
Season them still warm with salt and paprika powder or spices of your choice. Serve along with homemade cheese dip/sauce.
