Homemade Hamburgers

A hamburger or short burger is probably the most widely used dish of many fast food chains. A burger bun with a beef patty, tomato slices, onion rings & a bit fresh salad, thats it.

In today’s post I will show you how to make quick and easy Homemade Hamburgers. Have fun cooking/baking!

Ingredients for 4 servings:

…for the burger buns:

  • 300 grams of flour
  • 125 milliliters of lukewarm water
  • 25 milliliters of lukewarm milk
  • 25 grams of soft butter
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cube of fresh yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Sesame seeds to sprinkle the burger buns
  • Additional flour for the countertop

…more ingredients:

  • 500 grams of ground beef
  • 1 beef tomato
  • 1 small red onion
  • ½ head romaine lettuce
  • 1 gherkin
  • Each 2 heaping tablespoons mustard & mayonnaise
  • 4 heaping tablespoons of ketchup
  • Salt & pepper

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • High vessel to stir together the yeast-water-mixture
  • Whisk or fork
  • Cup
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixer/Kitchen machine
  • Kitchen towel
  • Baking tray + baking paper
  • Brush
  • Knife

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 2…add 125 milliliters of lukewarm water…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 3…25 milliliters of lukewarm milk…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 4…& 1 teaspoon of sugar…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 5…stir together with a whisk or fork until sugar and yeast have completely dissolved, then set aside…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 6…give 1 egg into a cup and whisk up with a fork…

Hamburger Selber Machen - Schritt 7…next add the remaining ingredients for the buns (flour, butter & salt) along with the yeast-water-mixture & half of the whisked egg (store the other half in the refrigerator until further use) into a mixing bowl…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 8…& knead together with a kitchen machine or mixer with dough hooks for about 4 – 5 minutes…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 9…until a smooth but still lightly sticky dough…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 10…form the dough into ball shape with your hands & give the dough ball back to the mixing bowl…





Homemade Hamburgers - Step 11…cover with a kitchen towel and allow to rest for 45 minutes in a warm place…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 12…after the resting period thoroughly knead the dough again onto a lightly floured countertop…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 13…& with a knife cut into 4 equal sized pieces…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 14…then form each dough piece into a small ball by pulling the dough from the outside inwards and give it a lightly press in the middle…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 15…thereafter “round” the dough pieces with the seam downwards and circular movements under your palms…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 17…& allow to rest for another 45 minutes covered with a kitchen towel in a warm place…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 18…give the ground beef along with a good pinch of salt & pepper into a mixing bowl…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 19…& knead together with your hands for about 2 – 3 minutes…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 20…divide the beef into 4 equal sized portions & shape each meat portion between your palms into a ball…





Homemade Hamburgers - Step 21…next, flatten the meat balls into about 1 centimeter thick burger patties and set aside…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 23…wash romaine salad & cut into thin strips…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 26…and give along with each 2 heaping tablespoons of mustard & mayonnaise into a small bowl…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 28…after the resting period brush the burger buns with the remaining whisked egg…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 29…and sprinkle with some sesame seeds…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 30…then bake in the preheated oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 15 – 20 minutes until golden brown…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 32…heat up a slightly oiled (grill)pan on high heat…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 33…once the pan is really hot reduce the heat to medium & sear the beef patties for about 2 minutes on one side…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 34…turn once and brown on the other side for another 2 minutes…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 35…halve the burger buns centrally (probably briefly roast/toast the buns on the cut sides) and spread the under halve with 1 – 2 tablespoons of the prepared gherkin-mayonnaise…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 36…next top the burger with beef patty, tomato slices, onion rings & a bit salad…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 37…spread the upper bun half with some ketchup…

Homemade Hamburgers - Step 38…& lid the burger with the upper half, then serve along with oven fries!.
