Homemade Churros




Churros are a Spanish fried pastry. They are made with choux pastry, fried in hot oil and then sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar or powdered sugar.

Ingredients for about 25 Homemade Churros:

  • 250 grams of flour
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 250 milliliters of water
  • 5 eggs
  • Salt
  • Powdered sugar to dust
  • 500 – 750 milliliters oil for frying

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • A pot to prepare the choux pastry
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Piping bag
  • Pot or pan for deep frying
  • Kitchen paper
  • Scissors
  • Tongs

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 5…until the choux pastry loosens as a lump from the pot bottom…

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 7Give the choux pastry into a mixing bowl and allow to cool for about 5 minutes.

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 9…and with a spatula stir together egg and choux pastry dough until everything is well combined.

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 10Once the first egg is thoroughly stirred in add the next egg…

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 11…and also with a spatula stir together egg and choux pastry dough until everything is well combined, repeat that for the remaining 3 eggs…

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 13Next heat up a pot or a pan with frying oil, to test if the oil is hot enough carefully give some scrap dough into the oil. Once it starts to bubble, the oil is hot enough…

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 14…squirt carefully about 20 centimeters long strips of choux pastry dough into the hot oil and cut the dough at the end with scissors…

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 15…carefully turn the churros once after 2 minutes of frying or your desired degree of browning with tongs or 2 forks & fry from the other side until done…

Churros Selber Machen - Schritt 16…lift out the churros and drain on paper towels.
